Jen Wangia MA, LAPC
Licensed Associate Professional Counselor
I believe every person has a unique story, inherent worth, and the capacity to heal and grow. Life's challenges can sometimes leave us feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or uncertain of who we are. As a counselor, I want to create a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space where you feel genuinely seen, heard, understood, and valued. I believe meaningful healing begins in authentic relationships, where curiosity replaces judgment and compassion creates room for change.
I earned my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Messiah University. I have experience working with adolescents, young adults, adults, older adults, and families navigating a wide range of mental health challenges, including eating disorders, anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), trauma, and mood and personality disorders. My clinical background includes working in an acute inpatient psychiatric setting, providing individual, family, and group therapy. I enjoy incorporating psychoeducation into the therapeutic process to help clients better understand their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationships while building practical tools for lasting change.
I have a passion for working with individuals struggling with eating disorders and exploring the deeper emotional and relational experiences that often accompany them. I recognize that eating disorders are about far more than food or body image and may be deeply connected to experiences of shame, unmet emotional needs, identity, trauma, and a desire for control in the midst of feeling overwhelmed or powerless. I believe that uncovering what lies beneath the disordered eating patterns and mindset with compassion rather than judgment is key to the recovery process.
My approach to counseling is holistic, strengths-based, and person-centered. I recognize that our emotional, psychological, physical, relational, and spiritual experiences are deeply interconnected. I draw from evidence-based and integrative approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS/parts work), and inner healing principles. Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, I tailor my approach to fit your unique needs, experiences, values, and goals.
Spirituality and religion can be meaningful parts of a person's identity and healing journey. I deeply respect each person's individual beliefs and worldview, so whether spirituality/faith/religion is important to you, something you're exploring, or not part of your life at all, you are welcome here! For clients who are interested, I have nearly 20 years of pastoral counseling experience and additional training in Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy (SIP), so we can thoughtfully incorporate your spirituality, religion, or disbelief/questions into our work together.
I approach each therapeutic relationship with humility and curiosity, recognizing that I am continually learning and growing through the privilege of working with my clients. I believe you are the expert on your own life. My role is not to tell you who to be or what to do, but to walk alongside you as we explore your experiences, discover your strengths, and work toward meaningful healing and change together. I consider it both a privilege and an honor to be invited into someone's story, and I would be honored to walk alongside you on your journey toward healing, wholeness, and hope.
Compassionate care for every season of life.
